New Year's Resolution: How to Use SMART Goals to Lose Weight

Hey hey hey hey! It’s Soulfood Sunday!

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals, but in the fitness world, they’re goals that are:

- Specific

- Measurable

- Attainable

- Realistic

- Timely

Today is actually the very first day that we’re going to break down the secret to S.M.A.R.T. goals, and we're going to start with…

S stands for Specific

Come January, we’re guaranteed to have new members inquiring about our weight loss programs, or about our 6 week transformation program. Now I know when the New Year’s Resolutioners come around, most people are like “I want to lose weight. I want to get fit.” That's great!

But we need to be even more specific! We really need to tailor and be super specific with what their goals are. And we have a process that we use, especially in our 6 week transformation program, called our 10 Deep Why.

Your goal was not specific enough! It wasn't deep enough! The purpose of the 10 Deep Why is to find a goal that is such a burning desire, it's more than a goal, it’s an intention. During those winter days, when there's tons of snow and you’re super cozy in your bed: what is it that is going to get you out of bed and working out? What is it that’s so deep, that you're going to say no thank you to that plate of donuts at work? What is it that's going to drive you to get to the gym even after a stressful day at work?

And that is where the 10 Deep Why comes in. Through our coaching and especially through our 6 week transformation challenge, we really dig into what that is. Think deep and kind of figure out “well, why do I want to lose 30 pounds?”

We had a client come in not too long ago and she said,

“I want to lose 30 pounds, because I don't like how I look in the mirror.”

“Why?”

“Because it's not me,” and tears started rolling up in her eyes. “That's not the energetic, full of life person that I knew 3 or 4 years ago.”

You have to remember your goal, your intention, your burning desire. That is what will make you get out of bed to throw your running shoes on and get your workout in, or to pass on something that you know is unhealthy.

It has to really really hit home to make worth it for you!
